Part L Regulations

What is Part – L?

Part L is the section of Government Building Legislation that concerns the Energy Performance and Carbon Emissions of all Domestic and Commercial properties across England and Wales.

It dictates the energy rating required for each individual property, whether it’s a New Build Property or refurbishment work being carried out under Local Authority Building Control.

More Detail

From 15 June 2023 an important update to the building regulations will take place which includes an uplift to Part L. All new homes must produce 31% less carbon emissions than what is currently acceptable in the present Part L regulations.

The changes could affect anyone undertaking a home improvement project, extension, renovation or self-build, so here's what you need to know about Part L, the new regulations, and how the changes will apply to your project.

What does this mean to you, our customers?

With these changes coming in to play. What will this mean to you and how will it affect your business? There are multiple ways that not getting involved with certain products will have a negative impact on your business. If you currently do not like to get involved with insulation for example but your competitors do. There is the potential to miss out on jobs moving forward. The big one, is products like solar panels. Although they are prominent on the market currently, they are only going to get more prominent and have a bigger impact on the roofing trade. With solar panels now evolving, the majority will now sit in the roof and take the place of tiles and slates for example. So as a roofing contractor, if you are not installing solar, you will effectively lose a large percentage of the roof that no longer requires tiles or slates. It will also mean as well as loosing at on material, you will lose out on the labour side. If you are willing to install the panels, you will be able to gain this lost business back straight away.
